- Digital Ocean sells virtual servers, of various sizes in several global locations, by the hour or the month. - codepen.io for web front-end demonstrations and testing. Pens can be embedded and are editable and responsive. Has a huge range of options and facilities including PHP and CSS linting; and testing pens using a free crossbrowsertesting.com service. All public pens are under an MIT licence.
- Glot.io hosts and runs snippets server-side in a range of languages. Glot.io has an API and is open source.
- jsbin provides live collaborative HTML, CSS and JavaScript pastebins. Paid accounts have Dropbox sync and private bins.

- File backup, sync and storage
- Adobe Document Cloud for file storage and processing as part of Adobe Acrobat DC.
- Dropbox file synchronisation service. The software is not wholly free or open-source but it does have clients for both GNU/Linux and Android. Dropbox offers some free space and has useful attributes including O’Reilly book synchronisation. With personal accounts, prior versions are kept for 30 days by default: on Pro accounts this can be extended to a year with the chargeable Extended History add-on; some older accounts may have opted to retain the discontinued Packrat option that offered unlimited deletion recovery and version history. Business accounts have unlimited version history by default. On Android devices, and on desktops where the Dropbox Professional service is in use, the Dropbox app only holds active files locally, reducing the need for storage space.
- OneDrive from Microsoft provides cloud backup and synchronisation. Plans range from 5GB free plans to 1TB per user with Office 365 plans. Clients are available for Android and other platforms, Web access is also supported.

- Etherpad is an open-source, customisable, online editor enabling users to users to make, edit and collaborate in real-time on documents. Software Freedom Conservancy operates a public Etherpad instance. Other sites running public instances of Etherpad lite are available.
- FastMail.com Australian mail handler with paid accounts for individuals, families and businesses. . Using this Fastmail referral link will save 10% of the first year’s subscription.

- Morpheus Data’s list of over 400 free DevOps resources. Some have usage limitations or are restricted to business users but still an interesting list.
- Nitrokey make two-factor authentication hardware and most products are open-source.
- Pushover provides an API to send notifications to Android and some other devices. Generous free tier available for sent messages; about $5 per platform for receiving devices. Colin Shea has an example on his blog of creating alerts for system shutdown and boot.
- SE Ranking SEO monitoring for web sites over multiple search engines.
- UpTimeRobot provides up to 50 instances of monitors for internet services at no less than 5-minute intervals with alerting and a day’s logs for free. Paid plans can have more monitors, SMS notification and shorter intervals between probes.
- VoiceBase voice to text transcription by machine. API and VoiceBase Web app access.
- WireframeApp.io collaborative wire-framing. Operated by appcepted.io who also provide the icon CDN service iconapp.io.
- Yubico two-factor authentication hardware. A report was presented at Financial Cryptography and Data Security 2016 on results of a two-year study at Google into the benefits of moving to FIDO U2F with Yubico hardware from other 2FA mechanisms. The report was summarised by John Fontana in a Yubico blog posting.
